MENASHA - It took a bit for the Menasha defense to wake up to the 2016 season, bending for almost half of the first quarter until a timely redzone interception by Dalton Knaack gave the ball to the offense.

The offense wasted no time.  The first play resulted in a Riley Zirpel 91 yard touchdown.  The following drive was also a single play, as Alex Zeinert connected with Nick Resch across the middle on a 62 yard pass reception.

As the first quarter ended, the defense started to settle down and demonstrate what defense means in Menasha, holding Green Bay West to a three and out on their third series and giving the ball back to the Menasha offense on their own 42 yard line.

The first play of Menasha's third offensive series (and also their third offensive play of the game) was screen from Zeinert to Lasia Moua and appeared to be destined for a third touchdown out of three attempts.  However, the West safety took a good angle and forced Moua out of bounds after a 44 yard gain.  Menasha would go on to take a 21-0 lead a few plays later with a 1 yard pass to Koby Batchelor.

In a game that appeared to start a bit slow for the Menasha defense, make no doubt about it.  They are a Menasha defense, made the appropriate corrections quickly and held Green Bay West to only 138 net yards and no score for the entire game.  The Menasha offense finished with 454 combined yards for the game, 7 touchdowns and the Jays walked away with a 56-0 victory.

Menasha travels to Shawano next Friday, to take on the Hawks who are coming off their own convincing win, beating Clintonville 47-0.
